Suitable for puppies/dogs aged 5 to 12 months of age

This course is designed to help you teach your dog basic manners at that tricky adolescent age. Training is informative and taught in a fun way using real life situations.

The classes teach you to be proactive in reading your dog when out and about, to give clear instructions for your dog to follow in a way it can understand.

This program is aimed at developing dogs that are a pleasure to own and to take out. It will teach you how to read your dog to support and nurture good behaviour.

Each week, you will be given a lesson plan to take home and work on.

Key Information

🖊️ Dogs must be 5mths to 12 months of age at the commencement of the class
🖊️8 weekly classes
🖊️ 45 min class
🖊️ Taught in real life scenarios, weather permitting - training room, carpark, oval, shopping centre, street walking
🖊️Class size is usually 5 dogs
🖊️No aggressive / reactive behaviours (requires one-on-one training before joining a class scenario)

Our intensive 45min classes cover:

Connection and focus.
Listening to its name and responding.
Come when called, under distraction.
Focusing on you under distraction.
Walking nicely on the leash under distraction.
Sit, drop and stand to a hand signal.
Stay.
Waiting.
Tricks to enhance learning.
On your mat.

Through our class we endeavour to tailor the classes to suit the group’s needs as well.

This class is not suitable for reactive dogs – please inquire about our “one on one” classes by appointment.

What is covered each week?

Week 1 – Relax and connect

Week 2 & Week 3 – Take the leash

Week 4 – Recall recovery

Week 5- Sit, Drop and Stand

Week 6 – Wait at the gate please. Stay.

When are the classes held?

Usually Saturday mornings 11am to 12pm.

Can my children come to the class?

We encourage children to participate in our puppy classes so they too can play a role in looking after their puppy in a fun way.

Where are the classes held?

Weekly classes are held in our purpose built training facility located upstairs at our Highton Clinic.

Who is the Canine Academy suitable for?

Ideal for the busy dog owner who wants to work through one skill at a time.

This class is not suitable for reactive/aggressive dogs – please inquire about our “one on one” classes by appointment.
