Veterinary Nurse – Early Career
Love Veterinary Nursing? Build Your Confidence, Develop Your Skills and Enjoy Being Part of a Genuinely Supportive Team.
Vets of Geelong | Geelong, Victoria
Full-Time Position | Four Established Clinics | Family-Owned
Are you a newly qualified Veterinary Nurse, or perhaps a nurse with a few years of experience, looking for the right environment to continue developing your clinical skills?
At Vets of Geelong, we understand how important the first few years of your nursing career are. It’s a time to build confidence, gain practical experience and discover the areas of veterinary nursing you enjoy most.
We’re looking for enthusiastic, compassionate Veterinary Nurses who want to become confident, capable members of a collaborative clinical team.
You bring your enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to learn. We’ll provide a supportive environment where you can continue developing your nursing career.
A Great Place to Develop Your Nursing Skills
Vets of Geelong is a proudly family-owned veterinary group, operated by veterinarians James and Jane Tiernan.
Since opening our Highton clinic in 2010, we’ve grown to four practices across Highton, Geelong West, Lara and East Geelong, with approximately 70 team members.
You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside experienced veterinarians and veterinary nurses who bring different clinical interests, knowledge and experience.
We believe great veterinary nursing develops through practical experience, guidance from colleagues and opportunities to continue learning.
Whether you’re newly qualified or already building confidence in your clinical skills, we want you to feel supported as you develop.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll work across a varied small-animal caseload, building experience in areas such as:
- Surgical nursing, patient preparation and theatre support
- Anaesthetic monitoring and post-operative recovery
- Hospital patient care, monitoring and treatments
- Blood collection, intravenous catheter placement and laboratory procedures
- Dental procedures and diagnostic investigations
- Nursing triage, client communication and consultations within your scope of practice
- Clinical record keeping, infection control and patient safety
- General nursing responsibilities, equipment preparation and maintaining a clean, organised clinical environment
We don’t expect an early-career nurse to know everything.
What matters is that you’re motivated to learn, willing to ask questions and committed to providing excellent care while developing your clinical confidence.
Support, Learning and Professional Development
We know that becoming a capable Veterinary Nurse takes time, experience and encouragement.
You’ll work alongside experienced colleagues who can provide guidance as you develop your skills in surgery, anaesthesia, hospital nursing and general practice.
Our established Standards of Care help provide a consistent approach to patient care across our clinics.
We value nurses who are curious, receptive to feedback and interested in continuing their professional development.
The Right Team Makes All the Difference
Our workplace is guided by three core values:
Kindness. Trust. Teamwork.
We believe in supporting one another, communicating openly and treating colleagues, clients and patients with respect.
We’re looking for someone who shares those values while also bringing initiative, reliability, accountability and pride in their work.
You’ll be an important member of the clinical team, with opportunities to contribute ideas and develop your confidence as your experience grows.
Who We’re Looking For
Ideally, you’ll have:
- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or a recognised equivalent qualification
- Recently completed your qualification or gained approximately 1–3 years of nursing experience
- A sound foundation in general veterinary nursing
- A compassionate approach to patient care
- Good communication and organisational skills
- A willingness to learn, ask questions and develop new skills
- A positive, team-focused attitude and strong work ethic
We’re interested in your potential, attitude and commitment to becoming an excellent Veterinary Nurse, not simply the number of years you’ve worked.
Remuneration and Working Arrangements
Remuneration is negotiable and will reflect your experience and clinical capabilities.
This is a full-time position.
Opportunities are available across our four Geelong clinics, with your usual primary location discussed according to your preferences, experience and operational requirements.
We aim to provide rosters planned in advance, a reasonable balance of weekday and weekend shifts, and opportunities for consecutive days off where operationally possible.

No formal cover letter or introductory video is required.
