Start Your Veterinary Career Somewhere That Will Actually Support You
Final-Year Veterinary Student or Recent Graduate?
Your first clinic matters more than you think.
The right environment can build your confidence, accelerate your skills, and help you genuinely enjoy veterinary medicine.
The wrong one can leave new graduates overwhelmed, unsupported, and questioning the profession they worked so hard to enter.
At Vets of Geelong, we’ve helped multiple new graduates successfully transition into confident, capable veterinarians, and we’re excited to welcome our next New Graduate Veterinarian into the team.
As our clinic group continues to grow, including the upcoming opening of our brand-new East Geelong clinic, this is an exciting opportunity to join a progressive, family-owned veterinary group where mentorship, teamwork, and culture genuinely matter.
Whether you’re preparing to graduate soon or already thinking about your first role, now is the perfect time to get on the front foot and secure a position where you can genuinely thrive.
Why New Graduates Choose Vets of Geelong
We understand that no two new graduates are the same.
Some veterinarians want close guidance early on.
Others build confidence through hands-on experience and gradual independence.
That’s why we tailor our mentorship approach around the individual rather than forcing everyone into the same mould.
Importantly, you’re not expected to know everything on day one, and we don’t believe any new graduate should feel like they have to.
Historically, we’ve welcomed multiple new graduates into our team each year, and one of the most rewarding parts of what we do is watching them grow in confidence, develop their own clinical style, and build exciting careers within the profession.
Our goal isn’t simply to help you survive your first year.
We want to help you genuinely enjoy it.
What Your First Year Will Look Like
From day one, you’ll work alongside experienced veterinarians, highly capable nurses, supportive reception teams, and approachable leaders who genuinely enjoy mentoring and case discussion.
Each new graduate is supported by a designated mentor who helps guide the transition from university life into day-to-day clinical practice, providing regular support, feedback, and encouragement along the way.
You’ll gradually build confidence across all areas of small animal practice, including:
- Medicine and consultations
- Surgery and anaesthesia
- Dentistry and dental radiography
- Diagnostic imaging
- Emergency and urgent care presentations
- Exotics, birds, and pocket pets
We don’t believe in leaving new graduates unsupported or overwhelmed.
As your confidence grows, so will your exposure, responsibility, and surgical opportunities, always with experienced support around you.
Asking questions is encouraged, case discussion is normal, and learning never stops.
Our veterinary team also maintains a highly collaborative internal case discussion network where vets regularly share ideas, ask questions, and support one another throughout the day.
A Workplace You’ll Actually Enjoy Being In
All of our clinics are modern, high-end fit-outs designed to create an enjoyable environment for both clients and staff.
We’ve invested heavily in creating clinics that feel open, bright, modern, and welcoming because we don’t believe veterinary teams should spend their days working in dark, cramped, outdated environments.
Across our clinics, you’ll have access to modern facilities and equipment including digital radiography, ultrasound, in-house IDEXX diagnostics, dental imaging, and modern anaesthetic monitoring equipment.
Importantly, our focus remains on high-quality veterinary care rather than rushed production-line consulting.
We also prioritise sustainable workflows, including 20-minute consult appointments, strong nursing support, AI-assisted note taking, and systems designed to reduce unnecessary stress and administrative overload.
Built to Support Great Veterinary Work
To help support our veterinarians, we’ve also developed our own in-house Vets of Geelong Standards of Care app, built specifically for our clinic teams.
The app gives our veterinarians easy access to clinical protocols, diagnostic pathways, drug calculators, treatment guidelines, and workflow support tools designed to help reduce stress, improve consistency, and build confidence, particularly during the transition from university into clinical practice.
Combined with dedicated mentorship, collaborative case discussion, and strong nursing support, our goal is to ensure new graduates feel supported rather than overwhelmed.
We also utilise AI-assisted note taking within consults to help reduce administrative workload and allow our veterinarians to spend more time focused on patients, clients, and learning.
A Team and Culture That Genuinely Matters
We’re ambitious about building one of the best veterinary teams in regional Victoria, but we also believe great veterinarians are developed through support, mentorship, teamwork, and culture, not pressure and burnout.
At Vets of Geelong, animals come first, teamwork matters, growth is encouraged, and enjoying what we do is part of who we are.
We genuinely enjoy working together, supporting one another, and helping each other grow both professionally and personally.
