Lead Veterinarian | Geelong West

Great Medicine. Great People. Your Opportunity to Lead.

Vets of Geelong | Geelong West, Victoria

Full-Time | 4+ Years’ Experience

Salary from $120,000 + Superannuation + Performance Bonuses + Additional CPD Allowance

Love Being a Vet? Ready to Take the Lead?

At Vets of Geelong, we believe great veterinary medicine starts with great people, supportive teams and the opportunity to do your best work.

We’re looking for a confident, enthusiastic Lead Veterinarian to help guide our Geelong West clinic. Someone who enjoys practising high-quality medicine, is comfortable with surgery and wants to make a positive difference to the people around them.

Whether you’re already in a leadership role or an experienced veterinarian ready to take the next step, we’d love to hear from you.

This is an opportunity to help shape the clinical direction of your clinic, build lasting client relationships and develop your team, while enjoying the support and resources of our wider Vets of Geelong group.

Why You’ll Love This Opportunity

Lead a Clinic, Not Just Work in One

As Lead Veterinarian at Geelong West, you’ll play an important role in supporting the clinic’s clinical standards, team culture and ongoing development.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Lead by example, delivering excellent veterinary medicine and client care
  • Confidently manage your own consulting, medical and surgical caseload
  • Provide clinical guidance and support to fellow veterinarians and nurses
  • Work collaboratively with the clinic’s leadership team to support day-to-day operations
  • Mentor colleagues and encourage a positive, supportive working environment
  • Help drive clinical standards, client relationships and the continued growth of Geelong West

You’ll have meaningful responsibility and the opportunity to make a difference, without being expected to manage everything on your own.

A Roster That Supports Life Outside Work

Our full-time veterinarians enjoy a structured four-week rotating roster designed to support a healthy work-life balance:

  • 17 shifts across four weeks: Four shifts per week for three weeks, then five shifts in the fourth
  • Geelong West is your primary clinic, with your regular shifts based there
  • Typically two Saturdays and one Sunday per four-week roster
  • Sunday shifts are worked at our Highton clinic, with additional remuneration
  • Typical shift hours are 9 am–7 pm
  • Two to three days off each week, with weekday time off balancing weekend commitments
  • No after-hours or on-call requirements

Wherever practicable, we accommodate requests for a consistent day off and aim to roster consecutive days off, helping you balance work with life outside the clinic.

Great Medicine, Backed by Great Support

Although your primary focus will be our Geelong West clinic, you’ll be part of a collaborative network of four well-equipped veterinary practices.

You’ll enjoy:

  • Experienced veterinary colleagues available for case discussions and support
  • Skilled veterinary nurses and established support teams
  • 20-minute standard consultations
  • Modern diagnostic and surgical equipment
  • Opportunities to pursue clinical interests and develop your leadership skills

Our established Veterinary Standards of Care are supported by our dedicated Vets of Geelong clinical app, providing easy access to clinical guidelines, medical information and practical resources.

These standards help us deliver consistent, evidence-informed medicine while recognising the importance of professional judgement and individual patient needs.

Professional Development, Your Way

We believe experienced veterinarians should have opportunities to continue growing, both clinically and professionally.

Our structured internal training and mentoring programs support veterinarians at different career stages, and as Lead Veterinarian, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the development of others.

You’ll also receive a dedicated CPD allowance, paid fortnightly in addition to your regular remuneration, giving you the flexibility to choose how and when you invest in your professional development.

Modern Facilities and Interesting Cases

Across our clinics, you’ll have access to:

  • Digital X-ray, ultrasound and endoscopy
  • Digital dental radiography and iM3 dental equipment
  • Comprehensive in-house IDEXX and VetScan diagnostics
  • Modern anaesthetic monitoring and diagnostic equipment
  • AI-assisted clinical note-taking to reduce administrative workload

You’ll enjoy a varied general practice caseload, including medicine, surgery, dentistry, diagnostic imaging and urgent care.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a veterinarian with at least four years of clinical experience who:

  • Is confident in general practice medicine and routine surgery
  • Enjoys building strong relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Communicates clearly and leads by example
  • Is comfortable supporting and guiding a clinical team
  • Values high-quality patient care and collaborative decision-making
  • Has an interest in mentoring and developing others
  • Is motivated to contribute to the success and growth of a clinic

Previous formal leadership experience is welcome but not essential. We’re equally interested in an experienced veterinarian who has the confidence, attitude and potential to step into a leadership role.
