Puppy School

Puppy School

Essential training for your pup

Our puppy & dog school offers essential training and socialisation classes to help your new furry family member or mature dog develop good behaviours and become a well-adjusted companion.

Is Puppy Training Really Necessary?

Getting a new puppy is nothing short of delightful! They bounce, they play, they get over-excited and are constantly happy discovering all the new things the world around them has to offer. Life is great, and every experience is new and fun when you’re a puppy! A bit like being a baby. But unlike children, puppy school isn’t compulsory and so not all dogs grow up knowing how to behave towards other dogs, other people and in different situations. Just like children, puppies need to know what is acceptable, and to learn what is right and wrong, otherwise nobody will want them around.

Puppies are most receptive to learning and forming habits (good or bad) between 8-16 weeks old, so this is the ideal age to start puppy training. At Vets Of Geelong, we run a 6-week puppy course for puppies no older than 12 weeks at the start of the course, so they can learn crucial socialisation skills and basic commands.

More Than Just Puppy Training

Bringing any new member of the family into your home can cause disruption to any existing family members, whether they are human or animal, so having an understanding of what to expect and why, and how to avoid any unwanted problems is important to keep harmony in any home. At our puppy training in Geelong, we encourage the whole family to come and learn about puppy training and how to create a positive environment to learn in, which is especially important when children are involved too. Learning should be a fun and positive experience, where your puppy wants to do the right thing to please you, and where learning certain life experiences in a controlled situation is not something frightening that may affect them for the rest of their life.

Puppy Training is for Life

Life is a constant learning circle, and it is important to continue teaching and reinforcing good behaviours and habits to your dog throughout their life. Our puppy training in Geelong offers a further 6-week program for pups from 12-20 weeks of age at commencement, to continue their education and nip any problems in the bud before they become to difficult to deal with.
